What is AI?
AI is the ability of the system to correctly interpret external data and model behavior similar to people, such as intelligent behaviour, learning, planning, and creativity.

AI enables technical systems to analyse the surrounding conditions, work with perceptions and solve problems in order to achieve certain goals, to a certain degree independently. . The computer receives data (already prepared or aggregated) through its sensors, such as a camera, and processes and performs actions.

AI systems are able to demonstrate intelligent behavior by analyzing the impact of past operations and working autonomously.

Why is MI important?

Some AI technologies have been in place for over 50 years, but the development of hardware and the expansion of computer capabilities, the increased availability of data and new algorithms have contributed to significant advances in AI technology over recent years.

Artificial intelligence plays an important role in transforming our societies and digitising our economies in many sectors; the development of AI and robotics has become an EU priority.

Future applications are expected to bring enormous changes, but AI has been part of our daily lives for several years.

Types of MI (EC definition)
software: virtual helpers, image analysis software, search engines, speech and face recognition systems.
PC devices incorporating AI: robots, autonomous cars, UAVs, Internet of things (IoT).
MI in everyday life

Below are some of the artificial intelligence applications that we face daily but may not be aware that they are powered by artificial intelligence.

Online shopping and advertising

Artificial intelligence is widely used to provide personalized recommendations to people based, for example, on their past searches and purchases, or other online behavior. The use of artificial intelligence in trade is very broad and the more important it is for product optimisation, accounting, logistics etc.

Web search
Search engines learn from extensive data input from their users to offer relevant search results.

Digital personal assistants
smartphones use artificial intelligence to provide the most relevant and personalized product possible. . Virtual assistants answering questions, making recommendations and helping to organise daily routines have become widely available.

Other examples of using artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence can be predicted to transform virtually all aspects of life and economic fabric. . Only selected examples of areas are given below.

Machine translations

Language translation software based on either written or oral text is based on artificial intelligence to provide and improve translation. . This also applies to functions such as auto subtitling.

smart homes, cities and infrastructure

smart thermostats learn to save energy from our behavior, whereas smart urban developers hope to regulate traffic with AI to improve connectivity and reduce traffic congestion.
